Fit Ball Classes

Sometimes known as Swiss Balls, Gym Balls, Fit Balls, it’s all the same thing – giant inflatable balls that you can sit on, roll on, lie on, put your feet up on (whilst lying down!) and generally play on. They challenge the body’s stabilising muscles (often known as the ‘core’ when referring to those in the torso) as the ball wants to move around.

A large part of using one of these balls is choosing the correct size and level of inflation for each user, depending on height, leg length, weight and experience/confidence. We spend a few minutes at the start of the class getting everyone settled on the right ball (I have a large selection!) and then discussing safety. You can also bring your own and we can work out how you can get the most out of it.

Fit Ball classes are great fun, provide new and different challenges and tend to be very empowering for attendees as they realise that they are capable of much more than they thought.

Most people who attend say that the class is not what they expected – I think the classes are more relaxed, more adaptable, less scary, more empowering and more varied than people expect.

The numbers are kept small – usually around 6 – so that I can keep a close eye on participants and so that everyone feels they have room to move around safely and comfortably.

If you’re interested in finding out more, or in attending a Fit Ball session, please do get in touch. These classes are sometimes run within the regular Pilates with a Twist timetable and sometimes as slightly longer sessions on a Saturday morning.

I had never used Swiss balls before and was a little apprehensive. However, as always Becky ensures you know how to tackle each move so you soon build confidence.

It’s great for the ‘abs’ and general balance awareness. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
